Phreaking is Dead?

Alright so I was thinking to myself... Phreaking is basically dead. I thought this because...

1. Payphones : Payphones used to be dominant. They were a phreak's gold mine, they could give you money, they could give you free calls etc. But now our world is dominated by cell phones so more and more payphones are becoming obsolete.

2. Tones : Tones used to play a major role in phreaking. They are still important because you can get a phone to dial certain numbers by playing back a set of tones but they don't do much for you now a days

3. Beige Boxing : This method can still be used, and will probably still be used for a good while. However it's losing its luster with many phreaks because hardly anyone uses a land-line anymore except for businesses. If you're looking to wire tap a business then its still a really good method of phreaking

4. Dial Up : In the 80's and 90's phones were used to connect to the internet. You could use a phone to connect to another person's box, you could block a person from getting on the internet by calling their phone (retro DDoSing). But now people are going wireless and people are using cable instead of a phone line.

...but then I realized that Phreaking is actually at a higher rate of importance! Think about it, there's millions upon millions that use cell phones every single day. People are just too occupied with hacking websites and RATing pedophiles to realize that there's a huge world out there that phreaks and easily take advantage of. I compiled a list of NEW ways of phreaking...

1. Bluetooth : This is already being used by millions of phreaks out there. Its a way to steal files from people without them even noticing.

2. Smart Phones : There are tons of people that use smartphones... Blackberry, iPhone, Droid, etc. are all examples of perfectly hackable smartphones. You know how much stuff people can store on these phones? Its practically a mini-computer. Android has a free development kit, and I'm quite sure that phreaks can make their own apps to hack other droids or even iPhones just by pressing a few buttons.

3. Jailbreaking/Rooting : This was sort of talked about above but it should fall into its own category. I don't really need to explain this to anyone.

... so just because you aren't unscrewing the microphone on a payphone and completing the circuit to the phone box to get a free call, doesn't mean that you aren't phreaking.
